Environmental Sustainability Policy

At Ocean Breeze, where our ambassador is the sloth, we understand that Costa Rica does not hold 6.5% of the world's biodiversity by chance. It is because of our commitment.

English summary: we measure our carbon footprint, use authorized waste managers, avoid single-use plastic, and protect sloths and wildlife. Our van GB-003813 is Dekra and emissions compliant.

1. Responsible Fleet - Plate GB-003813

  • Fuel control: we record km/gallon per service. Target >38 km/gallon. Weekly tire pressure check.
  • Efficient driving: eco-driving training. Idle over 3 minutes is prohibited.
  • Smart routes: GPS optimization to avoid traffic and reduce empty kilometers. Target <15% deadhead km.
  • Preventive maintenance: synthetic oil, original filters and alignment every 10,000 km to reduce emissions.

2. Carbon Footprint

We measure CO2 at 2.68 kg CO2 per liter of diesel consumed. We offset 100% annually through FONAFIFO and the Blue Flag program. 2026 goal: reduce consumption 10% vs 2025.

3. Comprehensive Waste Management - Law 8839 and Decree 37567-S

  • Hazardous waste (oils, filters, batteries): labeled drum stored under roof. Delivered only to a Ministry of Health authorized manager (LUBRICAR S.A. / MATSA). Manifests kept for 5 years.
  • Special waste (tires): delivered to FUNDALLANTAS or retreading. Zero tires in dumps.
  • Onboard ordinary waste: recyclable / non-recoverable separation. Biodegradable bags and cleaning products. No single-use plastics for clients (refillable bottles).

4. Wildlife Commitment

  • We do not feed sloths, monkeys or crocodiles on Palo Verde tours.
  • No flash photography during wildlife sightings.
  • Guests receive information about minimum viewing distance.

5. Blue Flag and CST

We are in the process of joining the Blue Flag program, Tourist Transport category, and the ICT Certification for Sustainable Tourism (CST).
